Abstract
One of the important elements at signalized intersections in Bandung is the design of special stopping space for motorcycle. A special stopping space for motorcycle at signalized intersection allowing motorcycle ahead start when the traffic signal changes from red to green. Installation of special motorcycles stopping space (RHK) can reduce conflict between motorcycles with another vehicle. Installation of RHK on traffic signal intersection also effects of intersection performance especially effect of dilemma zone. The dilemma zone is defined as the area in which it may be difficult for a driver to decide whether to stop or proceed through the intersection at the onset of the yellow signal indication. In order to know how far is the effect a research concerning that matter was conducted and presented as the subject of this paper. The data simulations were used to calculate length of dilemma zone and length of distance where four-wheel vehicle will stop at RHK. Two types of dilemma zone are used in calculation, namely Type I Dilemma Zone and Type II Dilemma Zone. The research result shows that vehicle approaching speed will effects length of dilemma zone. Improperly design of RHK can potentially place drivers in a dilemma zone, so the four-wheel vehicle will stop on RHK.
