Abstract

This article discusses the work of young designers in the field of furniture design that shows the trend of furniture design today. The trend here is the tendency of furniture design characteristics emerged in current Indonesia. Most of the works appeared at national and international furniture fairs which make them recognizable, both nationally and globally. The type of furniture discussed is limited to the design of chairs with rattan and wood materials. Furniture design trends also give an effect to the interior design. The method in this research is observation and critical analysis of furniture design characteristics. The results of observation and analysis show that the design trend of Indonesian furniture generally uses the design style of the 1960s until the 1980s as an inspiration. The design style is now called retro or vintage and is now a trend of the furniture world. In terms of materials, the trend of furniture design today is characterized by the merger of two materials such as rattan with metal or wood with metal.
