Abstract

The textile industry is one of the sectors that has high clean water consumption and produces wastewater with chemical content that has the potential to pollute the environment. PT X Karawang, as a textile company in Indonesia, has implemented a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) with a capacity of 60 m³/hour to ensure the quality of wastewater meets the quality standards based on the Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation Number 16 of 2019. This study aims to evaluate the sources and characteristics of wastewater, the treatment mechanism, and the effectiveness of the wastewater recycling system at PT X Karawang. The analysis results show that the main source of wastewater comes from the sizing, desizing, dyeing, mercerizing, and printing processes. The WWTP treatment implemented includes physical, chemical, and biological processes, with Multi Media Filtration (MMF) and Reverse Osmosis (RO) units as part of the recycling system. The evaluation showed that PT X's WWTP has a high efficiency in reducing COD levels by 96%, TSS by 92%, and color by 98%, so that the treated water meets the quality standards. The effectiveness of this system allows the reuse of wastewater as raw production water, reducing dependence on external water sources. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that waste management at PT X Karawang has met environmental standards and supports sustainable industrial practices. Optimization of the recycling system can be continuously improved to increase water use efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
