Abstract

Water Treatment Plant (WTP) “X” with a capacity of 600 liters/second. This water treatment plant was established in 1990 and is still operating today. The water source used at WTP “X” comes from surface water and springs. Over the years, there have been changes in the water sources used, especially those from surface water. Activities carried out by people along the river can affect the quality of surface water. One of the treatments in the Water Treatment Plant (WTP) “X” is the coagulation-flocculation process which serves to reduce the negative charge contained in particles due to the force of attraction between these particles and can form clumps in the form of small flocs. After the coagulation process will continue to the flocculation process which will form larger particles. Aluminum sulfate or alum is one of the coagulants that is widely used because it has economic value, is easily obtained in the market as well as easy storage. The dose of coagulant added is one of the factors that can determine the success of the coagulation process. The right dose is needed so that coagulation runs effectively because if the addition of too little dose, flocs will not form and excessive doses can cause flocs to form imperfectly due to changes in solution pH. So, the effect of determining the optimum dose of coagulant and dosing pump on operational patterns at WTP “X” was carried out.
