Abstract

High traffic volumes increase air pollution due to exhaust emissions from motor vehicles. Serang City, the capital of Banten Province, has high traffic activity, with the number of motorized vehicles reaching 363,773 units in 2021. The objective was to evaluate the ambient air quality status based on PM2.5, PM10 and CO concentrations in traffic-intensive areas in Serang City. The concentrations of PM2.5, PM10, and CO were obtained from the measurement results of the Air Quality Monitoring system (AQMS) for one month (August 2021) owned by the Environmental Agency of Serang City, and expressed as average hourly, daily, and weekly concentrations. The quality status for the month of August 2021 was determined by comparing the measured concentrations to the ambient air quality standards (PP No.22 of 2021). These results provide important information for determining air quality management efforts in transportation areas in Serang City and other cities in Indonesia with similar characteristics.
